He will remain involved with the company as a Non-Executive Director and Special Technical Adviser, ensuring continuity of strategic and technical guidance for the rapidly expanding telco.

Brian Maher, currently serving as Aussie Broadband CEO, will assume the position of Group Chief Executive Officer. Brian joined the company in 2019 as Chief Financial Officer and played a key role in the company’s 2020 ASX listing and subsequent growth.

A Legacy of Innovation

Under Britt’s leadership, Aussie Broadband has evolved from a regional ISP to a national telco powerhouse, including milestones such as:

  • The 2008 merger forming Aussie Broadband.
  • The 2020 IPO, positioning Aussie Broadband as a major player in the market.
  • Strategic acquisitions of Over the Wire (2022) and Symbio (2024).

Aussie Broadband Chair, Adrian Fitzpatrick, praised Britt’s vision and dedication:

“Phil has been instrumental in driving Aussie Broadband’s success and building a world-class team. The company is well-positioned under Brian’s leadership to continue achieving strategic goals.”

Phil Britt’s Next Chapter

While stepping away from day-to-day operations, Britt will remain closely involved with Aussie Broadband:

  • Special Technical Adviser Role: Advising on technical projects such as the ongoing Aussie Fibre rollout, with an annual fee of $300,000 (adjusted for CPI).
  • New Venture: Launching Rural Fibre Co, a community-focused project aimed at enhancing digital connectivity in Gippsland.

Britt stated:

“Transforming the digital landscape for communities in Gippsland has always been my passion. Rural Fibre Co will ensure the region thrives in Australia’s digital future.”
