Westpac (ASX: WBC) has announced the appointment of Paul Fowler as Chief Executive, Business & Wealth, bringing over 20 years of experience in financial services, corporate finance, and wealth management. He will assume the role mid-year, succeeding Peter Herbert, who has been serving as Acting Chief Executive.
Extensive Leadership Experience
Fowler joins Westpac from Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), where he is currently Executive General Manager, Regional and Agribusiness Banking. Since joining CBA in 2015, he has held several senior roles, including:
- CFO, Institutional Banking & Markets – Led a global finance team and strategic initiatives.
- Executive General Manager, Mergers & Acquisitions – Oversaw major transactions in banking, insurance, and financial technology.
Prior to CBA, he spent over a decade in investment banking, with roles at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, advising financial institutions in Australia and globally.

Academic Background
Fowler holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce (First Class Honours in Finance) from the University of New South Wales.
With Fowler at the helm, Westpac’s Business & Wealth division is set to strengthen its market position and enhance customer support across key sectors, from small businesses to large corporates.
