Woolworths Announces Leadership Changes and Organisational Restructure

Woolworths Group (ASX: WOW) has unveiled key leadership changes and an organisational restructure aimed at enhancing customer impact and simplifying operations within its food division.

Key Leadership Appointments

Annette Karantoni – Managing Director, Woolworths Retail

Annette Karantoni has been appointed Managing Director, Woolworths Retail, reporting to Amanda Bardwell, Woolworths Group CEO and Managing Director, Australian Food.

Karantoni, who previously led Primary Connect, Woolworths’ supply chain business, has been with the group for over 20 years in senior roles across eCommerce, Buying, Marketing, and Replenishment.

Her new role consolidates Woolworths Supermarkets, Metro, Greenstock (red meat supply), and Woolworths Food Company Retail (Own Brand) under one umbrella, allowing a more integrated retail strategy.

“Getting it right for our customers starts with our team, and we are taking the opportunity to simplify the way we work,” Bardwell said.

Jeanette Fenske (Director of Stores) and Paul Harker (Chief Commercial Officer) will remain in their leadership roles within Woolworths Retail, reporting to Karantoni.

Sally Copland – Managing Director, Woolworths New Zealand

Sally Copland will return to New Zealand as Managing Director, Woolworths New Zealand, following Spencer Sonn’s decision to return to South Africa.

Copland has been with Woolworths for over 18 years, previously holding senior leadership roles in eCommerce, Brand, and CountdownX, as well as serving as interim Managing Director.

“Sally’s experience across Australia and New Zealand makes her ideally suited to lead Woolworths New Zealand through its transformation,” Bardwell said.

She also thanked Spencer Sonn for his leadership during a challenging period for the New Zealand business.

A More Streamlined Woolworths Retail Division

As part of the restructure, Metro, Greenstock, and Woolworths Food Company Retail will now fall under Woolworths Retail, reinforcing the company’s commitment to delivering better customer experiences and operational efficiencies.

These changes position Woolworths Group for greater agility, stronger leadership, and a more customer-focused approach across both its Australian and New Zealand operations.
